Should You Rekey or Replace Your Locks?
Both make old keys stop working. Here is how to choose the right one.
Rekeying and replacing both stop old keys from working, but they are different jobs.
Rekeying changes the inside of your existing lock so it works with a new key. It is a good choice when you move into a new home, lose a key, or end a tenancy and your hardware is still in good shape.
Replacing installs new hardware. It makes sense when the lock is damaged, worn, or very old, after a break-in, or when you want an upgrade such as a stronger deadbolt or a smart lock.
